Many caregivers share your feelings. The asset distribution questions of ?who gets what? and ?why? often are among the most complex and challenging issues family face. The answers are almost as complicated as the question.
Carol Cloud Bailey: Cast-iron plant named, known for its hardy nature
Cast-iron plant is so named for its tenacity and ability to grow just about anywhere, from a dark barroom to shady garden. Grow this plant as a groundcover under trees, against north walls, in planters inside or in large containers for beautiful green texture on balconies, patios and around the pool. It is beautiful in mass for foundation plantings, in beds and as a carefree houseplant.

Q. I downloaded Internet Explorer 8, and it conflicts with the Weather Channel tool bar I have installed. Do I have any options, or must I uninstall the toolbar? If the latter, how do I uninstall it?

Eyal Goldshmid: Correcting problems opening Publisher files
Q. I have a desktop computer with Microsoft Publisher 2003 on it. I also have a laptop with Microsoft Publisher 2007. Both of these computers are connected to the internet (Comcast is my ISP) through a Belkin wired router. Whenever I e-mail a 2003 publisher document to my laptop and try to open the file attachment, a window pops up on my laptop with a message reading, “This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Association Control Panel.” However, when I send a Publisher 2007 file to my desktop, it opens without problem. Can you help me?
Judie Rappaport: Discuss independent-living concerns with Mom
Dear Judie: My brother feels Mom’s home is too large for her to manage and she shouldn’t drive anymore. I want to discuss this with her. Herbert says “she’s too old; we have to decide for her.”
Carol Cloud Bailey: Pest or guest? Opinions vary on squirrel control
A couple of weeks ago I wrote about gray squirrels in response to a question about the damage they are causing in Mary Ann?s landscape. I included the statement from the Florida Wildlife Commission that gray squirrels are not protected species and may be live-trapped and humanely destroyed if they are a nuisance.
Eyal Goldshmid: Solutions to an undesirable 'Hallmark moment'
Q. I purchased the Hallmark Card Studio 2008, but it will not work, or even install, on my computer. I have tried Run, but it tells me to insert the disk, which I have done but to no avail. I tried Add and Remove Programs. That doesn’t work, either. A friend had the same problem. After she removed Norton Anti-virus, she was able to install the program. That didn’t work for me. Can you help?

Judie Rappaport: It might not be 'selective hearing' that's causing parents' confusion
DEAR JUDIE: I?m frustrated enough to move Dad (89) to a nursing home. He ignores us when it suits him, but hears just fine when we ask about something he?s interested in. He says, ?I didn?t hear you,? but we know he?s just practicing selective listening.
Carol Cloud Bailey: Eastern lubber grasshoppers are voracious natives
Using a car might be overkill when it comes to dealing with Eastern lubbers. They can wreak havoc on landscape plants and are difficult to control once they reach adult size. I called this grasshopper a Georgia thumper when I was growing up, but scientists have named them Romalea microptera.
Eyal Goldshmid: How to change your default photo program
Q. Whenever I upload pictures from my digital camera, my computer produces a message stating the following: “Photo Story cannot open the selected project because it is corrupted. Try opening a different project.”

Two hot dogs covered with chili, cheese, and pastrami wrapped in a tortilla. A loaf of hollowed-out bread filled with creamy peanut butter, a jar of grape jelly, and a pound of bacon. These are just a few of the hundreds of unfathomly bad-for-you foods pictured on this pointed and often unsettlingly hilarious photo blog.
Judie Rappaport: Dad's new family won't take time, love away from old
Dear Judie: Dad, 82, is marrying a wonderful woman who is great to me and to my kids. Instead of being happy for him, I’m afraid her family will take his time away from us.
Carol Cloud Bailey: When usual foods are scarce, squirrels may feast on flowers
When squirrel populations become large in areas where humans dwell they can become pests. Population explosions usually occur from feeding squirrels and from the lack of predators.<

Eyal Goldshmid: Strange new desktop items may be spyware
Q. When I boot my system, I normally am greeted with my standard desktop. However, a week or so ago, I noticed something new: a white bar at the top of the desktop, with about 25 different icons in it. The icons are for things I am not familiar with. When I place my cursor over them, they state things like: “system volume information,” “autoexec,” “autorun,” “boot,” “block.bn,” “CMLDR,” Any ideas what this is and how to get rid of it?
Judie Rappaport: Changes may be too gradual for those too close to Dad to see
Dear Judie: I just visited Dad, 82, in Ohio. In six months, he has become thin, pale, unsteady on his feet, and seems a little muddy in his thinking.
Carol Cloud Bailey: Florida bats need place to roost, not feed
Q. Are there any plants that attract bats? We put up a bat house four years ago, but no bats yet. I’d be happy to have a family of bats.
